How Trading at QSG Works
QSG is a proprietary trading firm. We trade firm capital and fully back our traders with risk capital, technology, infrastructure, and market access. Traders do not contribute personal capital.
Compensation is fully performance-based. Traders earn a percentage of their trading profits. There is no base salary and no guaranteed compensation.
We view trading at QSG as a long-term relationship. Many of our most successful traders have been with the firm for a decade or more.
Location: New York City (Trading floor access available; NYC-based strongly preferred)
Traders at Quantitative Strategies Group are building long-term trading businesses inside the firm. Traders manage their own account within the firm and develop and implement strategies using firm capital, while leveraging QSG’s infrastructure and risk framework.
QSG provides trading floor access in our NYC office, including dedicated seats for traders who utilize the office consistently and visitor desks for those who are in periodically. While traders have autonomy over their workflow, we have found that traders who utilize the office consistently tend to progress faster due to tighter feedback loops around opportunity, risk, capital allocation, infrastructure, and live trading decisions. For that reason, we strongly prefer candidates who plan to be NYC-based and utilize the office regularly. Remote arrangements are limited and considered case-by-case. They are typically appropriate only after a trader has demonstrated sustained performance and the ability to operate independently within QSG’s risk and operational framework.
Traders at QSG operate independently while benefiting from shared firm infrastructure, including capital, technology, market access, risk management, and ongoing internal education. Our technical resources support continuous learning across the firm and are used by all traders to expand market knowledge, refine ideas, and deepen familiarity with our in-house technology and proprietary programming language.
Traders contribute to research, strategy development, and implementation from the outset. While traders begin with smaller risk limits, responsibility and capital are earned over time based on demonstrated performance, discipline, and risk management.
This role is designed for individuals who want to take ownership of their work, engage deeply with markets, and compound skill over the long term within a collaborative trading environment.
Ideal candidates:
Location: Remote while in school (NYC trading floor access available; NYC-based strongly preferred after graduation)
Graduating Academic Traders at Quantitative Strategies Group are individuals who begin building a real trading business while still completing their degree. This is not an internship, training program, or temporary role. Expectations, evaluation, and capital allocation follow the same framework used for all traders at QSG.
This track exists to give high-potential students the ability to start earlier. Building a durable trading business takes time, and starting before graduation allows motivated candidates to develop skills, processes, and a track record while still in school.
Academic traders typically work remotely during the academic year due to school commitments. After graduation, NYC-based is strongly preferred to maximize learning speed and collaboration through access to the trading floor and on-site feedback loops around risk, capital allocation, infrastructure, and live trading decisions.
From the outset, traders contribute directly to research, strategy development, and implementation, using the same firm infrastructure, internally developed research tools, and risk framework as other traders. Access to capital and responsibility scales based solely on demonstrated results. There are no guaranteed timelines, outcomes, or compensation.
This role is intended for undergraduate and graduate students who want a meaningful head start, are comfortable with real accountability, and view trading as a long-term pursuit rather than a short-term experience.
Ideal candidates:
We run a structured, efficient process designed to be fair to candidates and to minimize unnecessary back-and-forth. We evaluate candidates continuously and may decline to move forward at any stage of the process.
